075 Your Brain Is an Algorithm—Program It Wisely

Sami Snow Episode 75

In this powerful episode, Sami explores the hidden force shaping how we see ourselves and the world around us: confirmation bias. She shares how the brain, much like a social media algorithm, is constantly scanning for evidence to support whatever beliefs we feed it—whether empowering or limiting.

Sami opens up about the stories she used to tell herself, including the belief that she wasn't smart enough to become a nurse—something that delayed her dreams. She also reflects on the early days of healing her relationship with food, when her coach encouraged her to affirm, “I am an intuitive eater who loves and respects my body,” even when it felt far from true.

Through honesty and inspiration, Sami reminds listeners that they get to rewrite the story they’ve been telling themselves. She emphasizes that true transformation starts with mindset and self-talk, and gives a glimpse into the kind of mindset-shifting work that helped her become binge-free for nearly three years.

If you’re ready to step into a new narrative—one that supports the version of you you're becoming—this episode is your invitation to begin.

Episode 75: Confirmation Bias – Your Brain is Always Trying to Prove You Right

Welcome back to Pretty Is as Pretty Does! I’m so glad you’re here with me for Episode 75.

Today we’re diving into something subtle but powerful—something that might be quietly shaping your reality more than you even realize. We’re talking about confirmation bias—the way your brain is constantly looking for evidence to prove you right.

This episode is about reclaiming your power. It’s about realizing that you are not stuck with the story you’ve been telling yourself. You get to rewrite the story.

Let’s start with something simple but eye-opening: the universe is an algorithm.

You know how social media works—if you watch a lot of puppy videos, you’re going to see more puppy videos. If you like debating politics, your feed will be filled with hot takes and think pieces. The algorithm shows you more of what you pay attention to.

Well, the universe works the same way. Your brain? It’s running its own algorithm.

If you choose to see the good in people, you’ll start noticing more kindness, more connection, more light. But if you’re always scanning for what’s wrong, always looking for reasons to be angry, offended, or disappointed—you’ll find that too.

Because your mind is always trying to prove you right.

Here’s a personal example: for years, I told myself I wasn’t smart enough to become a nurse. And that belief? It delayed me. It made the path so much harder than it had to be. But it wasn’t the truth—it was just the story I was repeating. And my brain, bless it, was working overtime to gather evidence to back that story up.

And then… when I started healing my relationship with food, I was working with a coach who told me to start saying to myself: “I am an intuitive eater who loves and respects my body.” And let me be real—I felt so phony saying it. At the time, I was still binge eating. I didn’t feel like someone who loved and respected her body. But I said it anyway.

Because I had to start somewhere. And that “somewhere” was planting a new seed in my brain. I fed it that new thought—even before I believed it—and over time, my brain started looking for ways to make it true.

And with the work I’ll be sharing soon in my upcoming program—Break Up With Binge Eating—I was able to fully heal that relationship with food. I did break up with binge eating. I do love and respect my body more than ever. I’ve been binge-free for almost three years now. And I truly am an intuitive eater who loves and respects her body.

But it started with the thoughts. It started with rewriting the story.

Doing the work to create real change in your life starts with your mindset. It starts with the conversations you’re having with yourself. With the thoughts you’re feeding your algorithm. Because your brain is always listening. And it’s always trying to prove you right.

So the question is: what do you want to be right about?

You get to rewrite your story. You get to choose beliefs that support the woman you're becoming. You get to decide that your life is working out for you—even if it doesn't look perfect yet.

Because when you change the story, you change the outcome.
