Welcome back to the podcast! Today, I want to take you on a journey—a story about transformation, resilience, and the power of honesty.

Once upon a time, there was a woman named Sami. Sami had spent years struggling with the same cycles many of us know all too well. Every January 1st, she’d make a promise to herself: “This is the year I’ll change.” She’d set out with ambitious goals, telling herself she’d be perfect this time. She’d stick to her plan, work out every day, and never indulge in a single craving. But by the end of January, something always went wrong. A missed workout here, an emotional eating moment there, and soon she’d find herself spiraling into guilt and shame.

Sami felt stuck. She couldn’t understand why she couldn’t stay consistent. Why she couldn’t trust herself to follow through. It wasn’t until one day, when she was journaling, that she asked herself a life-changing question: “What if the problem isn’t my plan? What if the problem is that I’m not being honest with myself?”

The Turning Point

Sami realized she’d been starting every journey by pretending she was already at the finish line. She’d set goals for the person she wanted to be, not the person she actually was. She’d tell herself she could go from zero workouts a week to six, from eating takeout every night to cooking every meal at home. She wasn’t being honest about her starting point, and because of that, she was setting herself up to fail.

That day, Sami decided to try something different. Instead of promising herself perfection, she promised herself honesty. She took a hard look at her habits and asked herself some simple, but powerful, questions:

- How much water am I actually drinking each day?
- How many steps am I averaging per day lately?
- How often am I ordering delivery instead of cooking?
- Do I stop eating when I’m satisfied, or do I eat past fullness?
- How often am I moving my body? And if I’m not, what’s holding me back?
- Am I sleeping enough to feel rested?
- How often do I turn to food for emotional comfort?
- Do I feel connected to a deeper “why” for this journey?

The Power of Honesty

Answering these questions wasn’t easy for Sami. It forced her to confront some uncomfortable truths about her habits. But it also gave her clarity. For the first time, she wasn’t setting goals based on wishful thinking. She was setting goals based on where she truly was, and that made all the difference.

Instead of aiming for six workouts a week, she started with two. Instead of cooking every meal at home, she committed to making dinner three nights a week. These weren’t huge changes, but they were realistic. And because they were realistic, Sami started to follow through. Each small success built her trust in herself, and that trust became the foundation for bigger changes.

Your Turn

As you listen to this story, I want you to think about your own journey. Where are you right now? Not where you wish you were. Not where you think you should be. Where are you *truly*? Take a moment to reflect and ask yourself the same questions Sami did. Write them down if you can. Be honest with yourself, even if it’s uncomfortable.

And once you’ve done that, I want you to ask yourself one more question: “Why is this journey important to me?” Your “why” is your anchor. It’s what will keep you going when things get tough. Maybe your why is tied to feeling better in your body, being a role model for your kids, or simply wanting to live a life filled with love and care. Whatever it is, hold onto it.

The Beginning of Something New

Sami's story didn’t end with overnight success. But it did end with progress. With trust. With self-love. And yours can too. Because when you start with honesty, you set the stage for real, lasting change.

So today, I challenge you to take 10 minutes and do a self-assessment. Be honest about where you are. And remember: This isn’t the end of your story. It’s just the beginning.

Until next time, take care and keep going. You’ve got this.
